Martyn’s Law – Strengthening Venue Safety from the Sky

 

Martyn’s Law (officially the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025) received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025 and introduces mandatory measures for venues and events to improve preparedness for terrorist threats.

Under the new legislation:

• Standard Tier applies to venues/events with 200–799 attendees, requiring risk assessments, staff training, and emergency lockdown or evacuation planning.

• Enhanced Tier applies to those with 800+ attendees, mandating higher levels of monitoring, CCTV, bag searches, and personnel presence.

The Act provides a 24‑month implementation window, allowing venues time to prepare before it becomes enforceable.
